This year marks the tenth anniversary of the British Film Festival, presented by Palace, and it is our pleasure to welcome aboard new naming rights partner Cunard. In the same vein as the iconic British cruise line, our Opening Night selection, the whimsical drama Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris, will also take you on an enthralling adventure.
With the recent passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, there has been much reflection on the history and culture of the British Isles and how it relates to us here in Australia. We can only attest to the strength of the Festival, which has grown significantly over the last ten years to become a highly anticipated collection of new British cinema and a chance to unite the local community and film lovers alike.
The 2022 line up showcases the region’s superb filmmaking and acting talent (Emma Thompson, Olivia Colman, Colin Firth, Bill Nighy and Steve Coogan all feature) and celebrates some of the most iconic British creations in James Bond and the fashion of Mary Quant. The Lost King is also a timely must-see; it is based on the story of the discovery of King Richard III’s remains ten years ago. We are also thrilled to be presenting Centrepiece Premiere screenings of The Banshees of Inisherin, from celebrated filmmaker Martin McDonagh and Sam Mendes’ love letter to cinema, Empire of Light.
We hope you enjoy this year’s Festival and delight in the shared experience of cinema once again.
